i went for a long time without a surge supressor, but recent lightning storms have scared me a little bit. i finally went out and got one, and a good one at that.
i bought a Tripp-Lite IsoBar6Ultra, for $60 at staples.
this thing is unbelievable, the build quality is unmatched it's sold metal enclosure and it's NEMA 5 standard! it'll take a surge of 2850 joules which is better than anything most people will encounter. it'll also reduce line noise, if you've ever encountered this it's a real pain in the ass. lifetime warranty and $50k worth of damage coverage if anything ever does happen. this brand is typically used in the industrial world, so it's good stuff. don't expect anything pretty it's just a white metal box with some labeling... but it's built like a brick sh*t house.

heres the one i got, they make others with 10, 12, and other input configurations... i only needed 6
anyway it was a little tough spending $60 on a supressor, but now that i have it, it was worth the investment. if you're going to do it,this is the way to go!
