there must be a faster way

i am looking for a way to speed up the process of shrinking and burning dvd's, i'm currently using the program "dvd shrink" which has to put the whole movie onto the harddrive before i can burn it onto a disc. this can take anywhere from 25mins to an hour and then theres the extra 15mins to burn the actual disk and then i have to delete the movies from the HDD because they take up un-necessary space.

so what does everyone else use for burning dvd's and aprox how long does the process take?

cheers, kain.

I use Nero for encoding DVDs, and it takes maybe an hour and a half on my main system. I don't think you can speed up the process much.

Same program you use. but you can't expect a program to do everything you want it to. so you have to delete the iso after burning. and as far as copying dvd's go, it takes time to copy encrypted (copy protected) dvd's. You probably won't find a better program then what you are already using.

yeah i was told dvd shrink is supposed to be the best... is there a way that you can get around having to copy the movie onto the HDD first like when burning an audio cd?

cheers, kain.

Dvd's are different. It's the process. You just can't take a dvd and copy it from one drive to another if its copy protected. non-copy protected dvd's you can copy from one to another. I can live with the 45 mins or so that it takes to create the ISO file and then to burn it to dvd.

You'll note that DVD-Shrink first encodes, then burns. The only thing that will speed up the encoding is a faster computer. The only thing that will speed up the burning is a faster burner.

I usually start it when I have something else to do. Watching it happen is a lot like watching paint dry.

yeah once it starts encoding it must use a lot of memory coz it struggles to do that and run msn at the same time...

if i got a ram upgrade would that allow me to use msn and the net properly while encoding/burning?

cheers, kain.

The reason it is so slow isnt because of the RAM, its because its using 100% (or close to it) of your CPU, and MSN cant process the information needed to run smoothly. Getting a dual-core processor would help.

damn. thats not fixable then. yeah its because i am on a laptop hence only having a 1.7ghz CPU.

cheers, kain.

Have a look at 1 Click DVD Copy

http://www.1clickdvdcopy.com/

I can burn a entire DVD in about 20-25minutes using it, some dvds have been even quicker (depending on the size of the disc being copied). It copies to harddrive then to dvd, once its done it will automaticaly remove the image from your harddrive so no manual deletion required. And its as simple as the name suggests, all can be done by the click of 1 button.

Clone DVD is supposed to copy DVDs on the fly, but I am not entirely sure.

Freely Specify Source & Target

- Copy/burn from DVD disc, DVD folder or ISO image file
- Copy/burn to DVD disc, DVD folder or ISO image file
- Directly disc to disc copy
- Copy DVD to hard folder or create ISO image for future burning

http://www.clonedvd.net/clonedvd_features.html saw that on their webpage. I personally haven't used their software for ages, but it seems very good. Tad "expensive" though.

Buy Nero 7 ultra, it does the shrinking and burning on its own; all you need to do it rip the DVD to the DVD file format. It is a million times quicker than any other program. It replaces DVD Shrink (and you dont have to delete the menus or anything).

Well for that matter, Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 is also a great program for doing that.

thanks for all those alternatives. i've downloaded the trials and i'll just have to see which works best.

cheers, kain.

probably, it wasnt that expensive, and it works very well. you just rip it with dvd decryptor and nero does the rest (resizing and what not) i have used it a number of times without problems and i can keep the menus. No noticable problems with quality either.

need multi dvd drives, and its still take a while

Using DVD shrink to backup a DVD takes me 20 minutes and about 8 minutes for the burning... i dont think its that bad but i guess it depends on the computer
