Thermal compound

AS5 is one of the best out there, and for the price, it's also one of the best in the price/performance catagory.

I think the stuff made by coollabs is recommended for copper heatsinks only. I've got some in my bits-and-bobs box, but haven't used it cos all my heatsinks are aluminium/nickel-plated/whatever

thanks for the replies guys, can you tell me what the difference between AC5 and the AS ceramique is?

Mike

yea. get AS5. ceramique is used more for like filling a larger gap like that between a video card memory chip and its heatsink... quite useful for applying those... put an nv silencer on my old 7800gt... anyways, AS5 is probably your best bet... there is one better compound which is liquid metal, but it can be a lot more volatile when it comes to aluminum and such... id go with AS5. remember not to lay it on too thick! haha

actully the stuff by Coollabs is THE best.... but if not, AS5 is good too

I know it's better, but given that it costs about $20, it's not worth it for the price. Especially since it only keeps the CPU around 1-3C cooler.

not even that much better if you contaminate it, and i would imagine its much easier to contaminate on accident since its a liquid...
coolabs is the best... but its not worth it unless you're REALLY serious about overclocking, and its more worth it to go on water instead of air rather than using a better compound....

i should go water. wait no i shouldnt im too lazy and poor. haha

Me too. Living with parents at mo, on £60 a week apprentice wages, desperately hoping I get one of the 2 admin posts I have applied for. Then, give it a few months, and I might upgrade to C2D AND Water-cooling. Who knows, maybe even phase.

i have the cool labs stuff on my schyth ninja on a p4 (800mhz fsb) in my antec P180 with 3 120mm fans on low it runs at 20 idle :) awesome stuff but if you get it, make sure you dont get it anywhere else, its conductive and could fry your mobo, also a little goes a long long way and yes beware of none copper heat sinks, i forgot and put it on my zalman and it ate away at the alloy.. got the new all copper one now tho :D

my AS5 came today, and im about to install the CPU, i just wondered about how much and whereabouts i should put it on an Athlon X2 chip?

Put a small drop (about the size of a small pea), on the center of the CPU.

Make sure you take the old thermal compound off first though.

No even that much. More like a small small dot in the center of the processor. Like a small grain of rice.
