Thermal paste on the Intel E8400?

It says no where in the manual that came with this CPU about thermal paste. I have heard that it comes pre-applied in retail Intel cpu chips, but I would prefer to be 100% safe. So do I put any on?
 
there's a grey pad on the bottom of your heatsink. thats the cooling paste.
You could take it off and apply some better paste but it isn't necessary.
