IC-7 actually isnt that great...its more marketing than anything, in an 80-way round up as5 did better than IC7. Overall the best though would be shin-etsu thermal compound, but of those two, Arctic Silver 5. I prefer MX-2/OCZ Freeze to as5 though.I am stuck between using Arctic Silver 5 and IC Diamond 7 Carat... by the looks of things the IC7 has lower temps... up to 11C lower than AS5. Any personal experience? I will be overclocking.
Well, I was recommended IC7 by my dad, he said that it was good. He acutally gave me some so i don't have to buy any.
Would any of those you recommend be better than the little packet of silicon based paste that my HSF came with?
Id recommend it yes, id recommend it as a lubricant to fix that squeaking door, but other than that, nope. This is personally my favorite for availability:Well, I was recommended IC7 by my dad, he said that it was good. He acutally gave me some so i don't have to buy any.

Yea MX-2 is really good Shin-Etsu sucks I will never use it again.
It really depends on what kind you get, they sell from pretty much straight silicone paste, to stuff comporable to as5/mx-2 (G751), or the high end stuff(X23-7783D). With the X23-7783D you can see 1-2c drop over mx2 or as5, which is pretty big difference considering as5 is as good as it is. Also, if you can get it, TIM consultants makes some good stuff also.Realy? I heard it was good![]()

What kind did you pick up? If it was the masscool kind off newegg, that would be G751 which is pretty much the best for the price(similar to tx-2/mx-2/as5).When I used it I got temps around 5C higher even after reapplying 3 different times in three different ways but all of them gave me the same result.

Sounds like you werent applying it right then, different tim requires different amounts/application methods really. Plus shin etsu requires some time to set up, after 100hrs or so of use you would really notice the temperature drop.Yea that's it but it didn't do anything for me but when I put my TX-2 back on the temps went back down to what they where before.

Odd, who knows. Although...it sounds as if you may not have put enough, as you were able to reapply it 3 times...its only a 1 gram tube. AS5 is a 3.5 gram tube and i can only get 5-6 uses out of one if that.I reapplied it three time each using a little more or a little less I let it cure for a week before I removed it and put some TX-2 on. At the end of the week my temps where reading 129F under load and with my TX-2 it never goes above 126F under load not a huge difference but it matters enough.

Yeah, just make sure you clear it off nicely with some rubbing alcohol and qtips or a lint free cloth. For a new application of thermal paste its always best to have a nice clean finish.I had 4 tubes of it. It was free so I because my boss ordered a 100 tubes at my shop and I took a couple for myself he never minds when I do that stuff. I think I still have a little more probably just enough for 1 more use. I have 5 tubes of TX-2 my boss gave me when he ordered to much so I might try the G751 again.
