Thermal Paste

Assuming you used the OEM heatsink with it's thermal-pad, you should be fine. I'm running my X2 4200 with the original thermal pad without any problems or high temps.

The CPU had a thermal sticker on it, so I used it. I'm probably going to get This and OC, so I wanted to make sure that the sticker is going to be okay.

That zalman comes with some thermal paste, use alcohol to wipe off whats left on the cpu and apply the new paste

Coollaboratory Liquid Pro is the best... AS5 is the most popular...

Differences were seen by ~4*C, load and idle

The syringe scares me...

One thing to know about Liquid Pro is that you can not use that on any aluminum hsf whatsoever and it acts like epoxy with the "one time only" application. That stuff will after repeated use eat into copper as well. AS-5 will adhere after a period of time but can be cleaned off and reapplied if you change hsf or like seen here lately need to swap boards and reapply then.

I have both Artic Silver 5 and the Zalman thermal grease onhand here for use on the 9700 model. The Zalman models do work effectively as long as you also have good air flow seen in the case. Keep the board temps down and you'll see lower cpu temps when going to oc there.

Zalman is a great brand for the higher price seen on those. I kind of wish that model was seen when ordering the 9700 instead since it has the AM2 mounting brackets while the blue led 9500 on the old build didn't. When shopping around the 9500 models seen lacked that. Just remember to allow some breakin time for the paste you end up using before starting to oc however.
