To cut a long story short i was formatting a hard drive in windows half way through my house got a power cut i can still use hard drive i think. The bios and everything still detects the hard drive it just can't be formated what should i do???.

Run the hard drive makers disk diagnostic utility to check for errors. An abrupt loss of power is not good for HDD's.

1. Try to format HDD with DBAN or KILL DISK.

2. Get UPS so that in the future whenever the power gets off your system can continue running without any problems.

3. Yes it is not good to cut the power to the HDD while it is doing something big such as FORMATTING.Even though that should not destroy the HDD unless if you keep doing it over, over, over and over on purpose for a long time in a row lol.

Cheers!
