Usually when you are missing a codec the player is not able to run a certain type of video file. The brighter colors seen have more to do with how the file was originally processed and your own brightness and contrast settings.
Does it happen with all .AVIs or just some of them? Does it happen with .MPGs?
From your description of bright colors you could try bringing down the brightness and contrast controls on the monitor somewhat when going to play files at the site. This is what I meant about how they are processed when they are too bright instead of using a standard process for making them. If you are coming across pirated stuff expect poor quality.
Well then it's obviously not the codec that's the problem (I'd love to know what ass that was pulled out of).
If it's only some that are the problem, that would indicate that the problem isn't with your machine, but with the source. See if it was all of them then we would have to look at your computer as being the problem. However, if it's just some movies, the problem is almost assuredly on their end.
I tell you what. Give me a couple of links and I'll try them out on my computer. If I have the exact same problem you'll know it's them. If not either The Other One or myself can help you track down the source of the problem.![]()
It seems someone won't admit when someone else got it right the first time.I can image the expression now. "
! he got it first!" Oh well.....

Would you mind acting your age? If you could just do that that would be great.![]()
You're telling me to stay on topic? The king of misdirection, misinformation, sidetracking and misinterpretation?
lolThat's funny.

When I was in grade school we used to have this stupid saying. "I'm the rubber, you're the glue...bounces off me and sticks to you".
You just gave us the modern rendition of that. Nice job. Like I said, act your age. There's so many people in here a third of your age that act more mature.![]()
