Thinking of Building??

Ok after looking at this forum and some of the neat cases I see online its making me want to build so guess I need to ask some questions to see if its for me or not.

Here is what I think I want, I am a Photographer and do no games but lots of multi tasking with Photoshop etc. I have a Dual Bay External Hard drive case with Sata Hard Drives.

A cool looking case :D
Pentium 4 Dual Processor
250 HD
1 gig ram
DVD/CD Burner (not sure if I want/need dual CD RW drives)
Good Video Card.


Ok now my questions.
I am not good at soldering, unless its something very big. My large hands and aging eyes make that tough.

Can you buy the case, processor, motherboard etc. all together or is it important to buy seperate and put it together yourself.

Can this be done relativly quick, what would you say the time frame is from start to finish once you receive the parts.

Can you get more PC for the $$$ and is it as good as a Dell, HP?


with this information should I build or order from Dell??
 
I guess I should say I have done the following PC updates.

Ram upgrades
CD Burner installation
Modem Instalation
Network Card Instalation
Sound Card Instalation

So I have done some of the easier things.
 
definately build. the computer i just built and in the for sale section is well over 1900$ if you were to buy from dell or best buy. if you are interested you can take a look at mine. or if you want i can throw some parts together from newegg.

Thanks Alan, I think I will try and build one, that seems to be half the fun. I take it you buy your parts from newegg? I wish I lived closer, would pay you to just walk me through it. I just think it will be fun building someting I can upgrade later.
 
For your parts you should check out newegg.com and tigerdirect.com. Both have fairly good prices and good products. It sounds like you should know whats going on inside the computer, the hardest parts of building are connecting the case wires to the mother board, and thats really it, the rest is just pluggin in wires to the correct drives. Let us know if you have any questions, and I believe there is a guide to bulding in on the 101s on here.

One tip:
Buy a case that has the front cables that connects to the mobo
well identified (mobo's manual is clear on it, but unidentified cables are hard for a newbie to set)...

Can you tell me how to find a case like that, what to look for.
 
not sure if this was cleared up already, but there is no soldering needed to build a computer, just hooking up wires and screwin things into place.
