So I'm thinking of getting a new computer. I don't game so I'll just be using it to type essays, surf the internet, maybe some photoshop, stuff like that. I'm not looking into building. Can anyone suggest a package from Future Shop or Best Buy (I'm from Vancouver.) Thanks a bunch!

Hmm.. what about this??

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=BDL10001085&catid=10607&logon=&langid=EN

Budget? Nothing over $1300 CAD.

Thanks again.

Oh and yeah. I jsut want it to work well day to day without it always messing up (freezing and the like).

whats that in USD?

i've seen computers at bestbuy that were about $400 after rebates, you should look into those.

Dude, you can get a much better computer then that for the same price. But for your needs you can spend much less then that.

thats in CAD if you didnt notice, and it includes an LCD monitor, but if you can tell me how much that is in USD, and what your budget is in USD, i can help you find a computer much easier.

I know it is in Canadian money and that it includes an LCD, but the difference between USD and CAD can't be much.

According to xe.com

Budget: 1300 CAD = 1,106.51 USD

The computer I posted: 1,159.99 CAD = 987.340 USD

ya, that is way overpriced, check out the computer that i posted in the post above yours.

Yes it will be. Geoff has one and it performs better then his Pentium 4. And Geoff, if your reading this, THEN GET ON MSN! :D

Hmm.. an AMD Sempron, will that be efficient?

yes, the sempron is an excellent processor, and for your uses it would be more then enough. I have the sempron 2800+, and as matrix said, it does do better in games then a P4, but not in multi-tasking.

I would go to bestbuy and look st some of the $400-$500 computers, thats all you really need.

You could just buy the monitor and any other things separatley if you wanted to. You can usually get monitors cheaper online then at Best Buy.

bestbuy usually has sales on monitors, you can get a good 17" CRT for under $100, and a decent keyboard and mouse for under $40.

and Matrix, its really only LCD's that are cheaper online, a CRT online may be a bit cheaper, but the shipping makes it much more then purchasing at a store.

Er.. I forgot to mention, I don't online shop.

And as for the Sempron doing better in games than a P4.. I do do a lot of multi-tasking.

Oh sorry. Then Best Buy is your place I guess. The cheapest Intel package is 870 USD, and comes with integrated video (which sucks for Photoshop) and a PCI-Express expansion slot for a video card. You don't shop online so getting a video card to use for Photoshop would cost too much. I would suggest getting the monitor separately from the computer. Best buy has mostly AMD desktops now, so you might as well get one of those. The AMDs will work fine for multi-tasking, and better yet is the AMD Athlon 64.

your talking like shes getting a gaming pc, she said the ocassional photoshop and integrated video would be suitable for ocassional photoshop. She would never need a PCI-E since you can get up to a 6800gt in AGP format, and she said shes just going to be doing essays, e-mail and internet browsing, so theres no need for an athlon 64.

Point is, you can get pretty much the cheapest pc you can find at best buy and it will suit you well.

Integrated video will not be good all around. And I am not talking like she is getting a Gaming machine. I just said that the cheapest Intel package had PCI-E. I know she doesn't need that, but unless she wants her computer to run extremely slow and be dissappointed, then she should not get integrated video.
