third display not showing up

Hey, I just set up my comp. It has a Geforce GTX 670. I have two monitors hooked up using the VGA, and DVI hookups. My third monitor has a VGA hookup. My card only has an HDMI and a display port hookup left. I picked up a display port to VGA video adapter converter, but the monitor isn't showing up. I read that I may need an active display port converter. Is there something else I can do or do I need to get this other adapter. The third monitor is a dell if that makes a difference.
 
You must use a display port connection to use 3 monitors. If your monitor doesn't support display port then you need a converter.
 
I have a converter, i don't know if it's an active or inactiver converter, I have it plugged in through that but still not getting anything.
