This I can not figure out! Help!

Hey guys new to the forum!! Here is a ? that I can not seem to figure out!

I am trying to help my dad with a phone modem problem.

He hooks up the modem at his house and gets no dial tone. I bring it home and have 2 different lines. 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the office. I hook it up to the one in the office get a dial tone and hooks up fine. Try the kitchen and nothing.

What could be the reason for it not connecting to certain lines? I have tried new phone lines etcc..

Try disabling the "wait for dial tone" in the modem's settings and see if it could connect or not.
 
OK tried that, still nothing, BUT I think I might have figured it out, went to the box outside - hooked up my laptop. It works one on phone number - but not the other, could be problem with the line...

Heres the thing
computer gets a dial tone when its hooked up to
7XX-298-xxxx works
7XX-297-xxxx doesnt work
