This P4 vs Celeron

So someone gave my sister a computer, some old HP, and i happen to have some hardware that fits for it that could make it a little better. It came with this motherboard:
I popped in my Pentium 4 3.0GHz processor, replacing a Celeron 3.0. Then I noticed that it was only running at 1.5GHz using CPU-Z. The problem is, as u can see from the link above, the motherboard only supports Willamatte and Northwood processor. This one I have happens to be a Prescott.

So I was wondering...

Will this P4 running at 1.5GHz perform better then Celeron even though the frequency is twice as higher?

SOLVED. Second Question Below

Probably not. The clock-for-clock performance of Prescotts was usually even lower than that of Northwoods thanks to its significantly deeper pipeline, the extra cache helped in multimedia applications and games but the extra cache ain't enough to make up for the massive clockspeed advantage of the celeron.

So I should probably throw the Celeron back in right? That's going to suck because Celeron doesn't have HT :-(

ok so I'm going to just buy another CPU for her but I have one more question. On the specs sheet for the MB it say it supports 1.4Ghz to 2.8GHz or higher. What does that mean? Could I get a 3.2GHz?

Nevermind, I'm an idot. the Celeron is a 3.0 so obviously a higher would work.

Thanks

i really don't think that Prescott P4's outperform Celeron's 2x/clock, so i'd think the 3.0ghz celly is better.

A Celeron is usually only worth 75% of it's clock speed in comparison to a P4, and Prescotts are typically 10% less efficient clock per clock, BUT the Celeron in this case sounds like it'd be better, and it sounds like the Prescott needs a 800MHz FSB and the Celeron needs somewhere around a 400MHz FSB, (IE, with the same multiplier, the FSB makes the P4 1.5GHz on the HP board but on a fully compatible board it'd be the full 3GHz)

In this case, because of the massive difference in real clock speed, I'd go for the Celeron, to be honest

Oh and if your board didnt support Prescott at all, odds are it wouldnt even POST :P
