This virus hid all my stuff.

I had a virus and I got rid of it, but I can't seem to find any of my files. I can find them in a search on my computer, but when I go to the file location, it's not there. (0 items).

Example:

Computer->C Drive->Users->owner->Music->iTunes Music->Podcasts->LoZ Podcast-> Orca's House.mp3

I'll work backwards here. I found a song file called "Orca's House" in the "LoZPodcast" folder, which is in the "podcasts" folder, but the "Podcasts" folder appears empty when I look inside it. The same goes for "iTunes Music," "iTunes," "Music," "owner," and "Users." Any clue on how get all my files back? Thanks !

Take a look at the Info thread in the security section and then post a new thread. John will help you out when he gets home.

Are you sure you got the path correct, letter-perfect? Do the files in the Search have appropriate sizes? Have you enabled Explorer to show Hidden files? Have you tried double-clicking on a file in the Search results to try and run it? Have you tried saving the file as something else in a known folder?

Hidden files? Lemme try that. How do I do that?

Control Panel > Folder Options > View

Check "Show hidden files, folders and drives"

Click apply

Well I knew that part, cause I saw a virus like this the other day. I ran [that very strong virus scanner I'm not supposed to tell people to run] and it took care of it.

Malware hiding your files and folders has been happening a lot lately. This must be a new breed out now. I'm glad you got everything figured out.
