Thoughts on GTX 465

Hey all. My last bit of cash is being rounded up and I'll finally be ordering my last parts for my build. I have the CPU, GPU, and motherboard left.

After much deliberation I've decided on the GTX 465. I know the GTX 460 offers better performance, as does the 6850. After reading many benchmarks it only seems to be by about 5ish frames, however. I don't feel like that justifies the 30 dollar price hike.

Is the GTX 465 going to be a good choice?

I'm coming from a GeForce 8400 GS. Yes I know. It's horrendous for any type of gaming but before that I was stuck with a FX 5200. Basically anything is going to be great compared to what I have now.

Uses will be for gaming on a 1600x900 display. That won't be changed.

I'm hoping to play Skyrim and BC3 when it comes out. Of course preferably with maxed settings and good frames. What kind of performance should I expect on these games?

Is there any other card I should consider around 130 dollars?

Future System Specs:

Phenom II X4 955 BE at 3.2 GHZ
4GB DDR3 1600 RAM
MSI 970A AM3+ Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB HDD

Thanks for the help!

from all i've seen, although it is a power hungry b1tch, the galaxy 465 i'm guessing you're talking about is the best deal out there for the price.

but i wouldn't expect maxing, may need to lower the shaders some, but bf3 does recomend a 460 which is slightly faster, so the 465 should be fine, especially with a little overclocking and at that res, maybe it will max, won't know till it's out.

Ok that's kind of what I figured. I'm used to playing 5 year old games on lowest setting at about 20 frames.

Get a 460 instead. Less power hungry, better performance and 100% chance of being a GTX 460. You can try to unlock a 465 to a 470 but it might not work. There's reason they're 465's and not 470's.

I'm not really concerned about power. Should I be?

I also know for a fact that the Galaxy kind of the 465 can't be unlocked so I wasn't planning on it anyway.

About the better performance I can find it's only about 5-10 frames more for about 30-40 dollars more.

i highly recommend the 460 over the 465 just in the fact the bugger will run cooler...i know mine runs pretty damn cool on idle..and even when loaded its cooler than either of my 9800GTX+ cards were.
