Basically, I'm wondering whether it worth switching the Q9550 for a Q6600, as i've heard that you can accive good OC'ing with the Q6600.

Also, the power supply might not be up to sratch? You know what they say: "Buy a cheap PSU, you'll end up buying another to replace it" (or something like that!)

This computer will be used for 3D rendering and, in the future, for gaming, so i'll be upgrading the Graphics card to a 280 or similar ATI card later.

I'm planning on overclocking it so it needs to be cool. I hope to get the CPU to 3.2-3.4GHz (possibly 3.6Ghz). What fans does the CM690 come with? Will i need more to keep it cool?

I'm looking to spend near the £600 mark, before the graphics card, so any suggestions as how to get a better deal/better build are greatly appreiciated!

Thanks for the help.

Better get cheaper and better board like GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R - one of the best P45

CM 690 has enough fans.

Q9550 overclocks better than Q6600, look at my sig, I have Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz and I have stopped only because don't want it over 60C with my not the most expensive cooler.

Get a bettwe power supply, also get a 600W, you don't need 700W even if you get the 280 GTX. I suggest you get a famous brand PSU like Corsair, OCZ, Silverstone, CoolerMaster, Thermaltake...

I'll translate ;)

"People have said that you can overclock the Q6600 to Q9550 speeds but I doubt you can get the Q6600 to the same speeds of an overclocked Q9550"

Ok, thanks for the help so far.

Revised build is now

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR iP45 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard £106
Coolermaster CM690 Dominator £64
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Socket 775 2.83GHz £227
OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual Channel £59.99
OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2 12cm Fan £60
OCZ Vendetta 2 Multi Socket CPU Cooler £29

One more question:

The motherboard suggested is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R but I can only purchase the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR from the site. I could buy from a different site, but the cost will go up with shipping. So, whats the difference, because I cannot spot any differences with the two boards?

Thanks
