any idea's??

It seems as if XP installation stalling at the start is usually caused by memory problems (or obviously it could be the HD), even if the previous installation worked fine. Can you set memory speeds/timings in BIOS manually? If so, I would try increasing the timings or lowering the speed. Also, if you can, try running the surface scan with CheckDisk (boot up from your XP CD, get in the terminal [called recovery console?] and type "CHKDSK /F /R" without the quotation marks.

Actually, try the HD scan thing before you mess with any memory settings.

its a bad cd drive

i had the same issue on a dell, replaced the drive and it no longer reported missing files

What is the drive??? DVD or CD????

What is the disk?? CD or DVD???

That's totally irrelevant. First of all, XP installation disks are CD format. Secondly, if he had been using a DVD with a CD only drive, for example, the disk wouldn't have been read.

Tried a different drive???

Did you do a full reformat of the hard drive??? Not a quick one???

What is the drive??? DVD or CD????

What is the disk?? CD or DVD???

COOHENN,please, PLEASE, would you please be so nice as to post all your questions in ONE (1) post. There's no need to post 1-2 (irrelevant?) questions at a time and wait for reply, this is a FORUM not IM.

Thank-you ;)
