Time for New HDD - Question Regarding Speed

Hello,
I have a question for those who are more up-to-speed on drives than myself. I currently have a Western Digital Raptor WD1600ADFD 160GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache and I need a new drive.

Do the current 7200 RPM drives with 64MB cache outperform the above WD drive in terms of overall speed?

I've had this WD Raptor for a while and I'm just not sure how today's drives compare. I appreciate any and all input. Thanks for your help.

New drives should be comparable in speed to an old raptor, but if you get a new raptor it's pretty fast :)

In general overall the Raptor will be slightly faster. But the performance/Price I dont think they are worth it. If your not looking for a really large drive the Samsung F4 320gb. is a pretty fast drive.

OK, thanks for your reply. I've actually contacted WD and they are willing to RMA this drive for a newer version since this drive is a little older. They want to exchange it for model WDC3000HLFS.

I actually ended up with a Crucial M4 64GB SSD drive as my OS drive. I'm using larger HDD for my storage. Seems to work really well. It'd be hard to go back to a HDD OS drive after using this SSD. Wow!
