ok so i think its about time i got a decent system. im about to get a job so i can work off whatever i buy. Therefore there isnt really a price limit on what i get. but basically as cheap as possible.

1.
first i need a new motherboard.
i was thinking a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050

its the mobo that i seem to recommend to people most often.
and has everything i need.

any thought on what might be better for me? i dont need anything with sli or ddr3 ram.

2.
now i need a cpu.
i want a core 2 quad Q6600.
but i would probably be better off with an E6750 because it its $100 less in australia.
what about a 45nm? would i get one of them for the same price as a q6600? and would it out perform it?
if it will then i will get it.

3.
decent ram.
i have my heart set on Corsair XMS2.
2 gb (2 x1gb) pc-6400 800mhz
for some reason i love it and it looks nice haha.
anything that would be better?
i could get some Apacer ram for nearly half the price.
would that be way more worth it?

4.
a nice looking case with lots of space.
i would love the antec 900. but its a bit expensive though.
i was thinking maybe a NZXT or something.
what would you recommend? i want it to look awesome ahha.

thats about it for now. ill buy the parts in that order. most likely borrowing the money from my mum and paying them off and then getting the next one.

so what are your thoughts? thanks

Mobo:
GIGABYTE GA-P31-DS3L

Core 2 Duo E6600 (huge upgrade from your Pentium D)
~$230.00 US

Ram:
(2 x 1GB PC6400)
G.Skill / Patriot Extreme Performance / Crucial Balistix
~$50.00 US / ~$77.00 US / ~$75.00 US

G.Skill

well theres like 30 bucks difference for me to get that P35. whats the difference exactly?

also. the E6750 is cheaper.

look at these prices.

http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/default.php?page=1&cPath=27_28

all the E6xxx cpus are about 200 and something. i may as well get the E6750. but i would rather something better.

as for the ram, theres actually not that much point discussing it i just realised. it doesnt matter that much. ill just see whats nice and cheap when i get it.

im thinking a NZXT is the way to go. ill research some aussie prices.

i think for any mainstream users, getting a quad core is a waste of money even though it's pretty cheap. you won't utilize all 4 cores so i would get a dual core where each runs faster. and it seems you're big on saving money so get THESE 2gig RAM. at $21 (after rebate) you can't really beat that or complain :D but hurry or they're gonna run out of stock or the rebates will be no good anymore!

Well then think no more! :D

Get the E6750 you won't regret it. It would definitely be a big upgrade in gaming over your Pentium D. ;)

About the motherboard, I don't exactly know the main difference from the P35 ovr the P31 other than the P31's primal memory type is PC6400 as opposed to the P35 which primarily uses PC1066 Memory I reckon. Also the P31 has solid capacitors too and is GIGABYTE so seems like a perfect choice to me. :)

And bout the case, you're totally right. NZXT cases are amazing. Look, easy-ness and effectiveness. Tool less, lots of space, good price. What more can I say?

Get a second Led case fan for the back (the one it comes with is black, no led), then the NZXT Apollo case will look 110% awesome!! you know its already 100% awesome looking in stock! Lol

haha. the thing is... i dont like lights in my pc.

i suppose if i make it look awesome. but usually have hate any light coming from it haha

yeah, but we will see...

this actually sucks. i always didnt want to get a job. but now that i do, no one will give me one haha.

i have applied for 3 and they havent got back to me. now that christmas is over they should be looking for new ppl lol

Haha lol, I hope you get one soon. I know how it feels to be waiting for money for your build/upgrades! lol

but i realise that with a job i can actually afford pretty much any part lol.

ill try to work 36 hours a week at a supermarket or somethere.

i should get paid like $8 an hour. which isnt much but anyway.

thats like $288 a week.

which is a lot seeing as i have nothing else to spend it on haha.

i can buy the mobo and ram within a week ahah. awesome.

so thats it. ill start buying them once i get a job.

So, are you borrowing the money, or saving it/buying everything when you get a job? :D

The build looks good, BTW. I've heard good things about NZXT cases'.

well last time my mum got very angry at me... when all the 8800 GT stuff happened... she said she wouldnt never buy me anything technology related ever again.

haha.

but once i have a job i reckon ill get her to lend me the money for all the parts and buy them all at the same time. easier that way. ill try and get a discount at the local store lol

oh and come on msn mep916 :D. need to talk about folding
