Time Warner Cable on PC?

Hey, guys, soccer season is coming up with European League and World Cup, so I decide to get some cable channels starting next month.

The problem is I don't have a TV in my room, and not planning on purchasing one. Is it possible to use my PC as a TV? What equipment I have to buy for that?

Thank you.

you'll be needing a tv card so that you can plug your cable decoder into your pc.
you might need some adaptors but you wont really know which ones until you get the decoder and tv card

um...does your 7800gt have vivo? if so, you can get some adapters and use your video card as a video in. Then you need a splitter or something for the audio.

all you need is a cheap tv tuner if you're not plann on usin it as a tivo. i paid 20 for one with barely any recording skills.

I'd suggest getting something a bit nicer. You can find a WinTVPVR-150 for around 60-80 and the quality is much better. Both recording and streaming. And you can capture and burn right to a DVD.

I had this really cheap capture card thinking I wouldn't ever care to record, but you'd be suprized how many times you wish it would capture worth a shit ;)

My video card does have vivo, I have the plug for S video in, so I guess it should be no problem to use that, however, what kind of program do I need to play it?

But I'm interested about that capture card that can record and stuff, I would love to record some soccer games, I'm a big Liverpool fan. But if I use the VIVO, can I still record stuff with it?

Mind giving me a link? Do they sell it on newegg? I found a few capture card there, but if I can record with VIVO, I would just go with that. Thanks.

If your card has VIVO, should it of come with some software? If not, you could probably use Windows Movie Maker. I really don't like it, but for what you want to do, it should work fine. Or just do a search on google, there are a few other decent capture programs...

If you want another capture card, as I mentioned before, the WinTVPVR-150 is pretty nice. Newegg has a few different models.

Eh, sorry if I didn't get all your questions, but some I didn't quite understand...

The 150 is probably more what you'd want. The quality between the two is basically identical. The only real difference is that the 500 has two tuners in it, so you can record one thing while you watch something else. Otherwise, they are basically identical.

Now, I'm not exactly sure how a satilite tuner plugs in, but these cards come with your standard cable connection. If that's all you need to connect to your TV, you're perfectly fine. They also have RCA and Svid inputs...

Ok, I"m going to get the 150. One last question: Do they come with a program for me to watch and record TV with? Or are there any better program you would recommend?

Any TV tuner really. You can get the independent of the videocard or integrate with it. The integrated ones are convenient and all but when it comes to upgrade you'll have an impass :)

It does but it doesnt have TVI

You dont stream SVIDEO (if that was the case, you'd hookd yer monitor to the SVIDEO -- which is doable -- but i get the feeling you dont have one of those monitors....)

but if I can record with VIVO, I would just go with that. Thanks.
You can but you're still going to need to convert TV (coax) to SVIDEO :)

Do they come with a program for me to watch and record TV with?
They usually do (or you can download of the manufacturers website). If not, a quick trip to google will do the job

Well, I'm now actually getting the Sat. TV, in which includes the receiver and everything. Therefore, all I need my computer to do is receive the image from the receiver. Will the VIVO do it?

Vivo is just your basic RCA ports like you have on the front of your VCR/TV. If you're satillite unit will send a signal though those ports to say your TV or whatever, then yes.
