Tiny computer / DVD player

A few weeks ago I modified(might be a bit of an overstatement) a broken laptop into a netflix(I barely use the netflix version from my own country, as the selection is far inferior compared to others.) and dvd player for my tv. I really like the overall result, but I can't help but think, that there could be a better solution. It is too big and the fan is really noisy.

So I got an idea. Maybe I could build my own tiny computer with a dvd/blueray. But the details of how and what to do is way beyond my expertise.

My questions:
- Is it possible to build it, in a comparable size to a standard blueray player?
- Where would I locate the smallets components on the market and check if they are compatible with each other.
- If I build this computer-thingy, which components would it need to work as intended(Play movies/tvshows on Netflix, popcorn time, twitch, dvd/bluerays.).

Any tips and ideas, would be greatly appreciated.

You'd need a CPU, motherboard (thin ITX? Another member please input), RAM, PSU, Case, and a graphics card that fits your needs (1080p?) + wireless adapter?

You could pretty much buy a computer, add a GPU, and then hook it up to a display like a TV no problem..

What country do you live in? Easiest way would be using PCPartPicker.com if it has a version for your country.

How much do you want to spend?

I would suggest you many go for m-atx case HTPC/ desktop case like siliverstone ML03/ ML04. They are not the smallest, but you have room for future minor upgrade

You can have really slim case like those from Streacom, but it has limited choice of components

Something like a Silverstone RVZ01 is pretty much the smallest case out there that can fit regular components. I think you could go smaller if you can do without a graphics card.

I would suggest MiniITX

You could buy a Blu-ray player that has "Smart" apps built-in such as Netflix for less than $100..
