Tips and help building first computer...

Hi again all!

Well I have so many questions and Im trying to decide where to begin... I finally have the money put together over the next few months to build my first computer and I need some help and pointers for someone who has never done this before. I know how to hook up and install everything for the most part, but I need input and help with the actual process of picking the pieces and parts.

Heres what I am looking for and some of the things I would be using it for:

First of my budget is roughly $1200-$1500 so try to ballpark your choices in that range.

I do a lot of photo editing and store large amounts of pictures on my computer. I need a fast hard drive so im choosing a 500gig SATA drive. Good choice?

The whole machine needs to be fast as before mentioned, I do photoshop and I also game so something thats gonna be good for both. I want at least 4gigs ram and if possible, do they make a motherboard that can be expanded beyond that capacity for future upgrade?

With that in mind ideas for motherboard or processor? Im at a toss up for AMD or Intel and also debating whether to go with true dual processors or dual-core, or should I go all out for the quad core?

Power supply?

Case?

Already have a brand new 22" widescreen monitor, but I want to do dual monitors so need a video card with dual monitor outs.

Next, Sound. Big into music, and I have a 6.1 surround sound for my laptop so need a sound card with the same types of outputs to support 6.1 surround.

Again Ive never built from the ground up so any input is much appreciated. Let me know what you can suggest!

A few questions, do you need an operative system?, do you need keyboard/mouse as well? btw there aren't 6.1 system surround as afaik just 5.1 and 7.1, and the last question can you buy from newegg ( usa only)?

That 2nd monitor you want so u can have duals.... that included in the price or not? Along with chupacabras qusetions :D
