This is prolly the 6th time this year im going to have to do this.

Came home from school today to find my laptop off upon startup as soon as i o
Login after a couple minutes it starts freezing. Cant boot to safe mode. Cant get into bios. Cant into the startup menu. Nothing.

As soon as im able to get logged in i try to start a virus scan. Runs for 30 seconds and freezes. Why does this keep happening?

Running a hp laptop. Idk the model right now cause i cant even get into the damn thing!

the "plow and pave" method of fixing windows is not my first choice.if this a recurring problem?if not list the other reasons for the reinstall, and as voyagerfan states check out your hdd.the last 2 os i had (xp,and 7)ran for years without reinstalls.no reason for yours not to as well.

Defaulting to a reinstallation is not the same as actually troubleshooting the underlying issue.

If you remove the hard drive, can you boot into bios? That's the most common failed component on a laptop that isn't treated gently.

I should prolly add that i have to hard drives. The OS is on a 120 ssd and data on a 750 hdd.

I tried to reinstall windows on the ssd and cant even do that.

Error messages? What exactly is happening when you install?

Disconnect the second drive while attempting to install windows to the ssd and see if it helps.

I already removed the 2nd hdd from the laptop.

No errors. When i install windows again it goes to the page where it actually installs the files (showing the % that has completed) and then just stops. It just stays at 0 with the 3 little dots that move to the right of the number. Those dots kept moving but the percentage stayed at 0. I started that at like 11pm last night. Was still like that this morning. Not a single percent moved on the installation files.

You can get a new 256GB SSD for the price you would have paid for a 120GB a year or two ago.

Well i just remembered that i have a 750gb wd black 7200rpm hdd in my old broke laptop. Gona swap the ssd with thatone and hope it works. Then ill buy a new ssd here in a couple weeks.

My computer is fine I can assure you.
8gb of ddr3 memory
intel I5 processor.
17" screen.

I just tested my old ssd and its showing 100% healthy.
Uploaded a PNG file of the test if that would help

Hardware wise, my computer is fine.
Besides the harddrive its self.

New one seems to be working great.
Just not sure why my old one tested good with no issues.
Sometimes tests don't always pick up the errors. If your OS is always under-performing or not working properly even after lots of reinstalls you can usually be sure it's a hardware issue, typically HDD or RAM (or a bad overclock).
