TJ Max

So im confused on this. tj max is the max temperature for my cpu (95*) yet the generally accepted max temp is ~60*. whos right?

also both coretemp and realtemp read the same delta tjmax yet realtemp has the temps at 5* higher... i dont get it

Tj is the junction temperature. Tjmax is the temperature at which #THERMTRIP flips and all power is cut off from the processor. #PROCHOT flips ~5 degrees cooler than Tjmax which begins throttling.

60 degrees is the accepted max case temperature (Tcmax) but Tj is usually about 15 degrees warmer than Tc so you can exceed 60 degrees it will shorten the lifespan of your CPU though.

what if tj is 95C then can i run at 65-69C and expect my cpu to last at least 2 more years
I don't know. Electorn migration gets more pronounced by higher temperatures and higer voltages as well (when you increase vcore the current passed to the CPU goes up as well). It may last 2+ years if you do that but running Tc over ~67 on a Tcmax of 60 for prolonged periods is usually a bad idea if you want it to last. I believe Tcmax for G0 stepping is 72 degrees. I don't know what stepping you have though.

I looked up your CPU and your Tcmax is 72 degrees. Still, I wouldn't want to run it at 65+ degrees all the time but it's less likely to fail early if you do.

its the difference between my case being unbreably loud or silent. the radiator fans have no inbetween setting.

You are watercooling and it's still getting that hot? Do you have it all running off a single small rad?

very large radiator. I believe its time to replace it though, not sure where to get a replacemnt locally though. Its one of the Koolance watercooling cases.

i dont know if any of those will work. mines quite old and none of those radiators look like mine. i wish i knew the case model then i could find one. i guess ill get out a magnifying glass and start looking all over the case.

so i went in my case to re route all the wiring to look good and get better air flow. thats when i noticed the source of my temps. some smarty mcgenious who owned this case before me didnt take off the plastic cover over the radiator that they used to protect it while they painted the case.

its not quiter but now with the fans in silent mode my temps hover around 59-60 with orthos running. quite a bit lower with the fans blowing hard but im at 3.5ghz. ill keep the silence rather than push out another 100-200mhz.

lol i just took of the waterblock to make put on AS and i found a bunch of crusty crap instead of thermal paste. cools WAYY batter now with AS. 49C on low fan setting with orthos running.
