TLER set-up problems

I've purchased a Thecus N4100 NAS and two 1TB WD caviar black harddrives. I want to configure them for a RAID 1 and need to enable TLER on both drives. I burned a WDTLER boot disk to do this, but my laptop does not recognize the drives when they're connected via a sata to USB connector. The boot disk does work and shows the menu, but doesn't find the hard drives when I select to enable TLER. Is there another way I can do this?
