TN panels on 20" monitors?

God, I've been reading and worrying so much about choosing a monitor over the past few days that I'm sick of it. I had been looking at 22" monitors and I read how they are all made with TN panels. Are 20" models made with TN as well, or is this something more particular to 22"?

Also, does this even matter? I know it means that it requires some tricks to get full 8-bit color, but is this even noticeable if you aren't doing photo work? For me it will just be gaming and everyday stuff.

I think I'd prefer a 22", but god reading all about them is just so frustrating. (Reading about *any* LCDs is frustrating!) I'm sure I'll be happy with what I get (I hope!) but until I get it, the decision is agonizing. :(

TN stands for twisted neumatic (sp?) and it's the type of panel you want unless you're a serious graphic artist, which you said you aren't. TN panels have the color shifts at high angles and can display less colors, but they have much faster response times.

The vast majority of both 22" and 20" (and lower) monitors are TN.

Apple's monitors aren't, hence their slow response times, and I believe there are some larger 24" and up monitors that aren't.

Oh good. From the sound of it, everyone seems to think they are *bad*, but sometimes I begin to wonder who exactly these people are. Probably they *are* graphic designers and other people who I shouldn't be listening to. They need to stick to CRT and stop complaining! :)

Yeah, I had read that, but it's more a factual description (not that that's bad!) and I was wondering more about how it is in actual usage. People seem to think it's bad because it's not 8-bit, but I guess there's no way to avoid it anyway.

I've been using laptops for the past 10 years, so I'm quite used to LCD screens anyway. I'm sure anything I buy for a desktop will be better than my laptop screens.
