To boot or not to boot

Working on a machine now (compaq Deskpro 6600) that has an unusual problem. The computer boots in safe mode fine but when booting in normal mode the screen freezes on the windows98 boot screen but continues to boot as normal (you can hear it in the background as it makes the normal windows starting noise). I am fairly sure it is because it is missing the Matrox drivers but I am unsure (in safe mode it is listed as unknown device and unknown driver). This is the first time I have ever seen such a problem (ever). If anyone has any ideas please do repsond.

you can try to install the drivers for it in safe mode. try a difrent video card too. it might be you video card might have a small defict in it.
