I have read the hd 101 and the raid 101 and where very helpfull, I am going to have to up grade my comp. due to a mother board failure, it had raid 0 on it before I knew what the different raids where( an education pays or costs that is) my question is one for the experienced out there..I am not a huge gamer and most of the work on my comp. will be copying dvd for archives and replacing what the kids scratched and making music cds,is there any benefit or noticable benefit to the extra expense and room taken up by 2 hds for the raid 1? or just use the 2 hds for total volume they are 2 80 gig hds...thanxs for any input

Current hard drives are MUCH faster than past generations. While they are still probably the slowest device within a computer, the performace gain from using RAID really isn't that noticeable. Unless you can find a pair of drives for less than a single large one, or you're using something like RAID 1(I assume you were refering to RAID 0 above, using two drives as one large one, not two "mirrored" drives) there's no point to it. I tried a pair of Raptor's with my previous computer. It was fast, slightly faster than my current setups, but the real benefit wasn't noticable. I do video editing and other fairly HD intensive things and a single drive works just fine.
