Too many problems.... HELP!!!!

Hi there,
A couple of days ago I'm assuming I was infected by a nasty virus, as on startup the OS I was using a couple of days ago (2000pro) failed to log in as my user name seemed to have vaished.

I then tried entering my username and password countless times before I gave up and went out and bought a new hard drive and a copy of XP home.

I then installed this on the new drive(leaving the other drive untouched), but now even ater installing the modem's drivers when I try to conect to the internet via broadband I keep getting 'remote computer not responding'. The password and ID are correct, and an ADSL connection has been made but i can't use the conection!

I have now scanned the old HD from an anti virus program in my new HD, it found one virus but when I disconnected the new HD and tried running the old one again there was no change.

1. Is there any way I can revive my old HD with Win 2000 on it even though I can't get past the password sytem??

2. Any ideas why my broadband connection won't work? I've entered all the details correctly.

3. I'm now running the old HD as a slave unit but how can I make my old programs in the old drive work again? They won't do anything now!
Can I move them to the new drive somehow, or can they be revived where they are?

A long story I know but I'm very lost now!

Cheers!

No broadband...

Another question......
The ADSL modem seems to think its a dial up modem, as when I open the network connections panel in the control panel its there under "dial up connections" and not "broadband connections"!

Under broadband there is "WAN Miniport (PPOE)", and a new one of these appears each time if I try to nake a new connection through the connection wizard too.
Whe I try the WAN Miniport one it gives "Error 678 the remote computer did not respond..."

When I try the Conexant ADSL icon, it gives a different error code. (721 Remote comp' not responding...)

Also if I change the settings in the Conexant ADSL modem from "PPP:Windows 95/98 /NT4/2000,Internet" to "SLIP UNIX connection" it actually connects to the internet for a split second then disconnects! (with no merror messages at all, just the "connected 512KB speech bubble in the bottom right" briefly appearing).

I think I'm loosing my mind now.......

Did that, and tried a new PCI card too, stll no further on!

They said error 721 is a bitch.......

Well they're sending me out their usual USB modem for free for me to try...... Here's hoping!
