well heres the story: took 128MB out because i think i shorted it out, touched it a bunch of times , then put back in, before that both of the 128MB rams were working fine, now the comp restarts, and i took one stick out and it slows down by 3x???? it takes like 10 seconds to load up IE and when i type in an address the hard drive led light lights up! why did it slow down so much? thanks

Most likely because the extra RAM you had in was enough for the computer to cache temporary data within and when you removed half of your amount of memory it needed to write more than the actual RAM amount you had, thus meaning the next place to store it is the page file on your HDD.

and doing this is MUCH slower than using actual ram

I assumed it was 256, not 128? Regardless of what the minimum specs are for software I always find that, especiallly with Microsoft software, it takes up more resources than it says on the box. When it comes to XP it never does exactly what it says on the tin :).

With RAM at that spec you'll have next to no chance finding it in a proper computer store. Your best bet is Ebay (Although risky) or any other second hand means of getting hold of it. Try requesting it on here within the buy sell section?
