Hello All,

I am an administrator and sometime I need to troubleshoot user PC via remote. But when I ask PC name for remote session, users are not sure where to get the info. Of course I can guide but at the same time wondering any tool for administrator like me to check those info. I google around and still none.
Need your info.. :)

Thanks.

Hi Agent,
Thanks for your response. In order to remote I need to get either IP address or hostname to connect. Now I need to call or e-mail to user to give me hostname and I can use remote connection. Hope you understand. Thanks.

Are these users all on the same network or are they all on different networks?

Check out iTALC, we use it at our school for some of our PC labs: http://italc.sourceforge.net/

Another option would be an inventory/tracking software installed on the clients that report to a database, where you can then look up device information on your end without needing the client to do it. If you don't want to use your own server, something like Meraki would be an option.

On topic:

You can do something like "query session /server:computernamehere" which will give you a list of logged in users for a specific machine. Usually places keep a correlation document to allocate certain PC hostnames to certain individuals. Are these users typically on your LAN or do you have a remote VPN deployment as well?

Just Google how to hack RDP and you will find tons of articles.

RDP is weak, but I suppose with a good password and if it's setup to disconnect with so many invalid password attemps it could be just as secure as SSH or Telnet. I guess.

That's a pretty poor article. None of the points presented attack the RDP protocol specifically.
