Tools Magnetizing!

So i'm putting my build together and while I was screwing something in I noticed my screwdriver was magnetizing to the screw. Is this a bad sign?

Nope.
Its a handy feature on some screwdrivers.
And I doubt the magnet is strong enough to harm your computer...but someone should verify that.

for use on a comp yes i bielive i sell tools at work and most trade ellectricions hate magnetic tools on use for ellectronic stuff

this may be ture but yet is it worth the risk

Well, it is very convenient, I would say there is no risk. It would take a magnet many times more powerful that the weak one in the tip of a screwdriver to re-polarize an entire HDD plate through the HDD case.

its not just the HDD that you can damage

A floppy drive as well perhaps but otherwise a computer is pretty much resiliant to magnetism if it's off. The BIOS can go funny if a powerful electro-magnetic charge is applied but no average magnetic screwdriver has that kind of power as it's disposal.

There is absolutely zero risk of doing any harm by using a magnetized screwdriver in a computer.

not true. one my friends did so, rofl the hdd was messed up. but he had a stronger one, I use one all the time, just make sure its not very strong!

Yes, true. If he did something to mess up his harddrive, he did something else. The harddrive has a very strong magnetic head attached... Also, when you turn on the power, so the electrons flow about, weird things happens.

A small scewdrew cannot do anything
