I am woundering if i should get an amd athlon 64 4400x2 OR an opteron 175 dual core cpu. They both are at about the same price. The computer i am making is mainly for gaming. What do you think is a better choice for gaming?

ah, everyone's ganna choose x2 4400, cuz its well know to most of the people compared to opteron,,,

i really like opteron, even though i don't know much about it, lol.

well, people almost think x2 is for gaming as a common sense these days,

The opteron's a server processor, right? Wouldn't it be better to get an Athlon. If I'm not mistaken, they are faster and everything...

Agreed, the Opteron wont shine unless its a dual core and overclocked at 3.0ghz......if you can manage to get that then its a very good choice.

It is not common sense though. Please tell me what x2 has over the opty. I no that the opty is better OCER, runs cooler, and is made of the same materiel as the fx series, cost less, has same cache size, 175 is 2.2ghz as the 4400x2 has 2.2ghz for about the same price. what does x2 have over opty.

Optys run hotter by 4 or 5 degrees...

I hope you mean the socket 939. If not then get the 4400+. If its the same price and 939 get the opty because you have the chance of OCing better.

Socket 939 opterons are just renamed server grade San Diego and Toledo cores.

Processors are made with different cores, thats why they are assigned different names. The AMD 64bit cpus had some names like, Manchester, New Castle, Venice, etc.

ya i see that, even "winchester"

but the guy before me said that opty have been renamed, thats what i want to know about.

AMD didnt engineer a new core for the S939 opterons. They just changed San Diego to Venus and Toledo to Denmark. Architechturaly they are exactly the same as regular A64 cores.

I posted the same thing on hardforum and so far its 8 to 0 in favor of the opty lol.

Also the opty is made of better silicone (just read lol) than the x2's what ever that means lol.

they lowered the rest of the amd products. :D

i might consider getting fx 55 or fx 57, i don't know what to do.

well your right one the one part, but newegg has it listed as a dual core processor, is this correct, and they havent lowered the other amd products yet. so i dont know how lucky we will be, well just want the FX60 more and more lol.
