Toshiba DVD Problems

Hello!

I have a Toshiba A105 laptop that I bought last March. It's been a great computer, but the DVD drive doesn't work properly. It has the Samsung/Toshiba TS-462C drive. It will play the DVD's, but it plays extremely slow. Only noticeable on DVD's. I've heard this is pretty much a weak unit and very unreliable.

I'd like to replace it with a better model, any suggestions? I don't need a DVD-RW, but if that becomes my only choice, so be it.

Is it possible to fix the one I have?

If playback is slow, I doubt it's the drive... Probably a problem with the player or codec, perhaps even video drivers.

Do you have access to other DVD software? Have you tried upgrading your video drivers, directx, and such? How's it work reading other stuff? I assume just dvd videos are slow?
