Toshiba laptop wont turn on on

My friends toshiba laptop (mx35x-s161) will not "compltetely turn on. Light comes on and you can hear the hard drive working but nothing after that. any sugesstions?
 
hold a flashlight to the screen and see if you can see anything being displayed, if so his inverter board went bad

Try hook up to a regular monitor and see if the os come on then u can narrow it down. If u hook up to a monitor and the os come on then u may proceed to check the cable from the inverter connected to the mainboard just in case it loose. I hope this will help.:D
 
you may have to sqitch between the laptop and the monitor, you can do this by presing fn and there is a monitor looking key near the f* buttons
