Hi,

My Toshiba Qosmio has suddenly started to produce a background noise like a badly tuned in radio.

At start up the Qosmio screen appears with no background noise. Once windows XP has started a background noise suddenly appears. I have not recently installed anything. I have tried recovery to an earlier point and the noise is still there. I have however discovered that if I mute the line in then this background noise vanishes and normal sounds resume. I havent altered any of my sound settings apart from when I found it was the line in causing the problem. I muted the line-in and the noise vanished. I have nothing plugged into the line in socket.

Any advice?

recovery wont do it, it just resote the computer setting, it cant delete any file
do you have any electronic device next it it, like a cellphone, some time this happen to me when my cellphone ring

Nothing is different around the laptop.

Yes, I have turned down the line-in. I was more interested in the reason why the noise just suddenly started for no reason. What it could be caused by, whether it is a failing component or some bug that has got onto the laptop.

It isn't there when the Toshiba Qosmio Screen appears and you get the Qosmio sound perfectly, but once Windows XP gets beyond the start up screen and the user log on appears, the crackling will then suddenly start 5 seconds or so later.
