i got a toshiba T8100 a while back as spares or repaires, it has a monitor, keyboard, what ever the mouse thing is called (sorry its not like a normal track pad), battery , CD tray and motherboard.

anyway can anyone suggest what i should put back into this laptop? i was hoping to make it into something i can take it too school without worrying too much about breaking it, so it would have to be cheap. however i want it to run better than when it came out.

il also be putting ubuntu onto this laptop or maybe duel booting with win 2000. just because i dont want to push it with xp.

im not sure if their is a CPU inside, il take a look now.

just an update, i cant get the screws of the CPU fan so i cant see if the CPU is still there. i assume its their but im not too sure as nearly everything has been taken from the laptop.

here are the specs: http://www1.dealtime.co.uk/Toshiba-Tecra-8100-PT810E-02952-EN/prices

im not sure what RAM and HDD i should get, i want to make full use of the 500mb of memory that it can use, but i dont really need a large HDD. can anyone recomend me any? im not sure what type i need.

IMO it's a bit old, even for office use. However you can get a standard 2.5" 5400RPM drive to improve overall system performance, the stock drive is 4200rpm which is quite slow.

The screen does have a decent resolution though.

If the CPU fan is on so tight, I assume it hasn't been taken out.

Is the mouse one of those little red dot things like on the IBM ThinkPad laptops?

thanks, i guess it is kinda slow but i dont want it just sitting there non-working. i do have 2 other better laptops which need repairing, but they are both missing screens and nearly everything else.
