Toshiba Satellite And Old Desktop - help

My " toshiba satellite L305D " has a hard drive problem and i was wondering if i could change the hard drive , it is 250gb HDD i saw a 500gb on ebay and i wanted to know if it would work on it . If it doesn't i wanted to know which one would , im willing to pay around 50-80 $

You should be able to replace it with any 2.5" SATA drive. The drive that ships with that laptop is a 5400rpm. You could go with a faster 7200rpm drive but it may run a little warmer and use more battery power.
