Toshiba Satellite Pro L300

Hi, my toshiba L300 PSLB1A-02C01E definitely accepts 4gb of ram. Currently I have 3gb installed, and so both slots are working fine. Whenever I try to install another 2gb of ram however it gets the blue screen and won't start up. Any advice? Do you need two identical rams to make it operate? Would updating my bios help? Cheers.
 
You could have a bad stick of ram or its possible the laptop don't like the 2 different brands of memory together.
