Touchpad issues

Okay, I have an Acer Aspire 5551 laptop (got it yesterday :D ).

The issue I have is that when I press any key if I try to move the pointer from the touchpad at the same time nothing happens (I haven't tried using a USB mouse yet), as though it is locked. So if I am typing and move the pointer I cannot do so until i stop typing.

There is a half second or so delay after releasing the key to allow the pointer to be 'unlocked'.

This is quite an annoying issue :( any suggestions/solutions?
 
Just tried with a USB mouse and the issue isn't arising. The touchpad is therefore the problem - still looking for a solution please :D
 
According to Acer's website, you either have the Alps or the Elantech drivers. If you have synaptics maybe thats the issue.
 
Okay so what do you recommend I do?
Could you put a link to where it said what drivers the laptop supposedly should have?

I tried updating the synaptics driver as well in case in was an older version for whatever reason but it is the latest version.
 
Thankyou, I did the same thing on the UK site (where mine is from) and it has Synaptics or ELANTECH down. So maybe the driver isn't the issue?
 
So your options are either synaptics or elantech? I would try the elantech driver and see what happens.
