touchpad not working

Ive been given a acer laptop (windows 7) bout two years old, and everything has been working fine, however the touchpad isnt working, ive tried a system restore and reinstalling the drivers but so far it hasnt worked, device manager says its working fine, and tried the fn+F keys to no avail
anyone got any ideas where to go now without restoring it to factory defaults?

restoring it to factory defaults won't do any good anyway.
two thing's could have happened:

1) the touch pad weared off and there's nothing you can do about it.
2) there's just dirt and fat under it. open up your laptop and try cleaning it -this should help.
