tracing copies made form hard drive

HI, I am trying to see if I can look at which files I copied recently from my hard drive into an external drive. The info on external drive is now gone. But I want to know what files I copied (or even more, when I copied), as there were so mnay and I can not remember exactly which ones...Is there a way to trace that by looking at the hard drive or somewhere else in my computer, if so how?
 
I don't want to read it. I want to backup copys from one drive to another. i just want to copy the files or directorys that are not there already. ive used xcopy many times resetting the 'a' attribute. if you needed to view and do the same thing as mentioned above there are archiving proggys like total commander that will archive and show you a list of what needs to be backup. or what's diffirent.
