Transfer files from old to new computer?

I just finished building a new computer and am wondering if there is a way of copying/transferring files from the old to the new computer more directly rather than copying the files on a stick or card? I am thinking of a way of using the LAN connectors of the computers. Even using the RS-232 ports must be more convienent than using a stick or card.
Any suggestions?
 
You could network the 2 machines and transfer over network.

You could connect the old hard drive to the new machine and pull the files over
 
Thanks fellows. Yes I could pull the old one and attach it to the new, but I am using both computers at the same time, (Not really, actually alternately!), and like to leave the hardware alone. But you guys gave me an idea, I have external USB driven 500GB HDs, and I could use one of them to do what you suggested. Did not think about that!
