Transfer WMP playlist to drive

Is there an easy way to transfer my WMP playlist and files in it to my portable drive?

I need to do this so I can use the burner on my laptop, my desktop drive is broken.

The WMP playlist is a simple text file created by WMP. There are files in it. Those are wherever they are on the drive and can be moved from one folder to another and easily copied from drive to drive. But you will need something like a usd adapter for the laptop drive or firewire data transfer cable for direct copy.

The playlist on another machine would be seen under "additional playlists" since there the main ones are created by that copy of WMP installed there. The playlists are usually found in the DocumentsandSettings folder\user name\user name documents\MyMusic\Play lists folder.

so, basically I have to do some sort of manual transfer and I can't just sync the list to the drive?

It's a simple lst file you can put on a floppy easy enough or simply create a new one by dragging the files onto the now playing column in WMP on the laptop or other machine. The files played are the larger items that will need a more direct link or simply copy using a usb type adapter. Once you copy a playlist it wouldn't be good for anything using another WMP for more then browsing to a folder to find it since WMP will first need to search the hard drive for media to add into the library.

The drag to column by way of Windows Explorer is easily saved then by choosing the location to that play list as well as naming it the way you want to see it shown. If both the laptop and desktop(they should) have firewire capability you then simply sync them for a direct transfer that way. The 2.5" external drive holder for slaving the laptop drive are also common items. Knowing the sizes of the files and how many will help on;ly when going to burn them to disk.
