Transfer XP settings?

Hi, today I think I fried my motherboard, i checked my cpu, power supply, ram, and there is no way i can get into the cmos. If i got a new mobo, how can I transfer my settings, files, and programs to that new computer with the new mobo? I run xp pro. I am aware that xp has a settings transfer thing, but I wasnt expecting my computer to fail in the near future, so my bootable hard drive is still intact. Any ideas? thanks

Being that the only thing you're changing is the motherboard, you should back up your important files on CD or DVD because when you change motherboards you have to reinstall windows or you'll get an, "Missing NTLDR" error

what i did was choosing the repair option from my xp cd and the new mb "found" the os on my hd and it was ok

So when i have my new cpu/motherboard combo installed, should i boot from the xp cd and choose the repair thing? How sure are you that it would work? I just want to know if its relatively safe, of if i should still back my files up.
