me again...

there may be other threads on here that deal with this problem, but..... i cant be bothered looking.

Having recently bought my new laptop, i want to transfer my collection of songs (over 2000) and other data (pictures etc) from my desktop pc to the laptop. I havent got a flash drive, and i aint buying one just for this one off process.

i do however have the cable which connects my desktop D-Link DFE-530TX PCI ethernet card to my laptops 10Base-T/100Base-TX - RJ-45 ethernet card.

only problem is setting up the connection. God forbid you just connect the cable and away you go!!! thats just not fine by microsoft. (TWATS!!!)

i was wondering if you guys could give me help on how to setup the connection. both laptop and pc are running windows xp home.

cheers for any help you guys can give me

So you're using a crossover cable then correct? Cause you can't just use a normal Cat5 to connect 2 PC's together.

go to the properties of your nic and check the box show icon when connected
this will tell you when you are connected
also I think you are using a streight through cable and not a cross over
when you plug the network cables in a indicator should come on on the nic and the icon next to the time at the bottom should say connected

yeah, i have the local area connection icon showing, but when i have the two connected, it has a warning sign that says there is limited connectivity
