Transfering Files over a Home Network Help

Hi,

I am having a bit of a problem here, I want to create a home network where I can transfer the contents of my laptop over to the the desktop pc that we have and vice versa. The only snag is that my laptop is running Vista Home Premium and the Desktop is running Windows XP Pro. The router we have is the Netgear WGR614V7 and our net connection is from Virgin Media (20Meg)

I know from trying that there can be some problems with this router as it seems to block alot of traffic that the old DSL router we used did not, but if someone could tell me step what step what I need to do then that would be grand?

Ok well assuming that both pc's are on the same network connected to the router then the router isnt going to affect anything here at all. The problems you may find are with the software firewalls on either of the machine.
