Transfering from Internal to External HDD

Hey everyone, I just completed my first build, which went really smooth minus a couple of small mistakes. It's up and running, everything appears to be working find, but I am having a unique problem right now and google was of no help.

I have a 1TB external hard drive that I have never had issues with. I kept all of my music on there as my old hard-drive in my laptop wasn't large enough to hold of the music and videos. I tried to transfer the music folder on the external hard drive to my desktop/various other folders and nothing happens. no error, no freeze ups between the pc or external drive...nothing. it's like i didn't do anything. copy/paste doesn't work, and neither does drag and drop.

the interesting thing is when i tried to move my website folder (about 3 gigs), it transferred with no issue at all.

any suggestions?

The thread title is confusing. it says internal to external, then you talk about going from the external to the desktop....either way, try unplugging then re-plugging

by extrenal do you mean a backup or a regular hdd that is in a casy thingy that lets you plug it in and out to use with multiple computers, if the second you could just put it in and hook it up for now and figure it out later.

sorry, my mistake. yes i am talking about copying from external to internal.

it's in a case that is meant for use on multiple computers. it connects through a USB only.

also, just to add, the only folder that will not transfer now is the music folder. as i said, no error pops up, no freezing or even a slow down. it's just like i am not performing that action at all.

very odd. i downloaded winrar, and was going to attempt to zip it and copy that...but it failed half way through the zip and told me a file extension was too long. so i tried to change the folder of that album to 1, and said it couldn't....couldn't delete it, but it allowed me to cut and paste it to another folder on the external hard-drive.

after i did that, everything transferred fine. it's odd that windows didn't give me any idea why it wouldn't transfer the folder, and that i had to use winrar to find out the problem.
