Transfering songs from iPod to computer

So last week my hard drive crashed, didn't want to pay the $400 or so to get all the data off it and I thought I'd just do it myself. I forgot how stingy Apple was about their music.

Well, after googling the topic and finding what seemed like a good guide, I went into windows explorer, did the whole hidden files thing and then went into iTunes and selected the hidden folder in my iPod. All was well until I next turned my computer on... It now says that it can't find any of my songs. I've tried repeating the steps I did before, but for some reason the iPod doesn't show up in windows explorer.

Any suggestions on what to do now? Oh, by the way, NOT interested in buying anything. Free stuff is all good though.

I have had the same problem before but I moved the songs from my iPod to another folder on my computer then put them in iTunes. I think what has happened is you transferred the song from you iPod to you iTunes. itunes does not store you music it is more of an organizer the music still has to be on you computer in the original folder where they where first added from. Have you tried reinstalling iTunes or downloading the driver for your iPod from the internet. There are some free programs that will move the songs from you iPod to you computer you just have to Google it and find one that works it's a trial and error kind of thing.

you can do ityourself for free, but it requires lots of time.

Set hidden files and folders on, go to my computer, go to your ipod, music, and in all of the folders each of those is a track, but they are muddled with funny names.

You can get em all from there but then you will have to rename and reorder everything
