Transferring contents of old HD to new HD

I have a new desktop, which at the time has only windows 2000 installed on the 120gb hard drive. My old desktop, has windows 98e and about 2 years of data & programs on the 40gb hard drive. I would like to transfer some of the programs and data from the old hard drive, onto the new hard drive. What would be a simple way to extract the some of the programs & some of the data from the old HD to the new HD? Thank you.

Thanks to all that took time to look at my post. I guess that I must have ask for something unusual, as I did not receive any replys.

just put the old hardrive in your new pc and set it to slave (new hard drive must be set as master) then start windows and just move tthe files
 
i have tryed. it doesn't seem that they work right now though...

I was going to attach screen shots from the wizard, but the admistrators changed the attach size a while ago.
